Economic Development and Regeneration Consultancy

Given current financial constraints, we believe that economic development needs to focus on partnership working, using the local authority's resources to unlock and lever in funding from the private, public and voluntary sector. We have considerable hands on expertise in this area.

The services we offer include:

Economic Strategy Production and Review
Each local authority needs to have a strategy to maximise its impact on the local economy in a cost effective way. Existing strategies need to be reviewed and revised in order to maximise access to external finance, whether public or private. We have experience of framing public/private sector partnerships. Deprived Area Strategies
Many programmes designed to assist deprived areas have ended. Acute need still exists. Responding to this need requires community organisations and local authorities to work together to maintain service provision. We have experience of proactively working with community groups to help to place them on a sound financial footing and ensure they survive. Deprived Area Strategies

Market Towns and Rural Regeneration
Market towns and rural areas face major challenges, including lack of affordable housing, poor public transport and declining local services. Local communities have to lead on finding solutions. This involves identifying projects which can be carried out with private and public sector partners, proactively seeking them out and using the physical assets the town possesses to lever in other funding. Tourism Development
Enhancing tourism can bring more visitors and income into the local economy. In some cases this can be done at low cost, such as organising a festival or creating a walking trail. Local authorities need to carry out an audit of their natural and built environment and identify where there is potential for development, rank them by cost and scale and identify potential partners. This could include the National Trust, AONB and local traders. Tourism Development

Project & Programme Evaluation
Externally funded programmes, including those funded by the government or the EU, require an independent evaluation to be carried out to see if the programme is adhering to its objectives and is achieving its output targets. These are of most use if they focus on lessons learnt and the ways of enhancing the impact of interventions in the local economy in the future. Project & Programme Evaluation Service
